On a recent edition of the podcast Writing Excuses, I heard about this stunning allegorical map. It was created by Keith Thompson for Scott Westerfield's YA book series >Leviathan, and I love eet. The book takes place in 1914 and the author wanted to set the tone by having illustrations in his novel that are based on illustrations that would have been in books at that time. Well, hel-lo. Success, this map is incredible. Look at some other of Thompson's illustrations for the book on his website. Sure, it's a little steampunky, but that map has got mythology written all over it.

Amazing art work! I admire such wonderful creativity! Thanks for the link, too!
I love how Norway and Sweden look like John Bauer trolls!
This map is so fab! I have not seen these books before either. Thank you for posting about these!
