My thoughts:
1. Pretty.
2. Helen Mirren seems to be a good fit, but I usually don't care for switching genders like that. I like Prospero as a man, and I like the father-daughter relationship in the play. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good choice and not something done just to get a reaction or to be trendy.
3. Do the special effects with Ariel look a little...movie-of-the-week to you?
4. Alfred Molina = WIN.
What do you think? Will you see it? Got any reservations?
Edit: I forgot to mention, it's due out in "select theaters" on December 10th.

I think I will go see it, I agree, I'm not sure how I'll like the gender swap thing, we'll see!
Your new banner is amazing!
Wooo. Hadn't heard of this coming, thanks for the heads up. You know I worship Julie as a genius (worked for her in early 90's) I'll see anything of hers that I can.
In terms of the special effects being very smooth and digital vs. more artful, I suspect she is trying to go for a more pop culture style with this in order to appeal to a younger movie going audience. Just a guess. Unfortunately, big budgets aren't possible for pure art these days.
When's it out?! I'll go look!
Well, I love love love Helen Mirren, so that's enough for me right there, then you toss in Russell Brand, yeeeeaaa, I'll be there! I'll probably write a Monday Night Magical Movie blog entry as soon as I see it. I must re-read it now! Thanks so much for sharing this, I'm all a-thither!
smaragmeadows - Thank you! I got it at shabbyblogs.com Love that site. <3
Shelley - You and your art connections! Gah! Lucky. I hadn't thought about the special effects as done for pop-culture; I'll have to see what I think when the film arrives. I just felt it was very much a sci-fi movie kind of feel with the effects, of which I am usually disappointed.
Mickie - I know, I'll be re-reading too! Would you believe I gave my copy away when I was clearing out my bookshelves earlier this year? Just an excuse to get a pretty one now. :)
That looks really beautiful! I definitely will go see it... and am excited for the excuse to re-read it. Yay!
Curiosity and Russell Brand doing Shakespeare is enough to get my bum on the seat ;)
the beauty of this film clip made my breath catch in my throat and tears spring unbidden from my eyes. so ya, can't wait!
